Tara SuriGalvanized by the sexism and poverty she encountered in India, at the age of 13 Tara Suri founded Turn Your World Around (turnyourworldaround.org) to harness the power of youth in making a global difference. Though she started out small – raising funds by baking thousands of cupcakes, selling crafts, and even recycling soda cans – her idea was big. Turn Your World Around engages youth in innovative initiatives that range from empowering sex-trafficking victims to increasing access to education. The organization also helps kids from around the world start their own service projects. The Turn Your World Around social-change portal, www.turnyourworldaround.org, provides youth with the resources and tools to start turning ideas into action. Turn Your World Around has engaged thousands globally in creating change.

In addition to her work with Turn Your World Around, Tara has written a novel about sex-trafficking. She also serves on the State Farm Youth Advisory Board, the Youth Service America National Youth Council and Board of Directors, and the Do Something Youth Advisory Council.

For her efforts, Tara has received numerous awards. She was selected as the 2007 CosmoGirl! of the Year and was also named the National Grand Prize Winner of the Taco Bell / MTV Teen Hero Awards. She was featured on CNN’s Young People Who Rock and Channel One’s Finding Strength. Tara also received the McKelvey Entrepreneurial Scholarship, the Nestle Very Best in Youth Award, the Bentley Tomorrow25 award, and the President’s Call to Service Award, among others.

Tara is excited to continue to pursue social-change and the ideals of Anne Frank as she enters college in the fall. She is committed to forging a movement of youth collaborating across boundaries for a more peaceful world.
