Sejal Hathi is a graduating senior at Notre Dame High School in San Jose, CA. At school, Sejal is a leader in several academic and extracurricular bodies and is ranked at the top of her class. In addition to graduating with the highest honors and having achieved perfect scores on her SATs and AP examinations, Sejal dedicates over 1,000 hours each year to bettering her community.
Galvanized by the oppression she witnessed against girls worldwide, when Sejal was 15, she founded the international nonprofit Girls Helping Girls to empower all girls to fulfill their potential and create innovative and collaborative social change. Under Sejal’s leadership, GHG has trained, mobilized, and united over 5,000 girls from nearly 20 countries, and has raised over $30,000 to satisfy their basic needs.
Sejal’s international work was spurred by her role on the National Board of Directors of the nonprofit Girls for A Change, with whom she develops more service opportunities for at-risk girls. Sejal also serves on Youth Service America’s National Youth Council and Board of Directors, upon which she helps organize service-learning institutes and national service programs. As a USA Ambassador for Ashoka’s Youth Venture, Sejal works to amplify Youth Venture’s mission to build a global movement of youth entrepreneurship. The youngest of only 17 youth worldwide invited to the World Bank / International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings in 2008 and as the Treasurer of the World Bank’s Youth, Development, and Peace Network of North America, Sejal strives to create greater opportunities for young people to work with the World Bank in international development.
Sejal has spoken at national and international conferences, advising on engaging the youth population. With YSA’s support, Sejal has co-authored a published monograph on the topic, and authored a book to be published on entrepreneurship.
