Teaching students to reflect on their own role within our society, through journaling and the exploring of the artistic process, is central to our educational programming. The Art of Self-Discovery offers a variety of units that use art to teach literacy, history, and personal empowerment.
Now in its fifth year in New York City Schools, this ten-week program includes professional development, a visit to the Anne Frank Center, copies of Anne’s diary, blank journals, a curriculum for each grade, eight direct service art classes with a teaching artist and a community celebration. In the past, art projects have included verbal and visual self-portraiture, clay busts, scrapbooks, comic drawing, and accordion book making. View gallery
