Shaping a Better Future: The Urgent Need for Education to Address Antisemitism and Promote Justice.
The issues surrounding antisemitism and bigotry are more urgent than ever, and the need for powerful and transformative education, learning and knowledge that inspires meaningful action has never been more critical.
Rising Antisemitic Incidents in the U.S.
In 2023, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reported a staggering 388% increase in antisemitic incidents in the U.S. following the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israeli civilians.
In 2022, the U.S. saw a 36% increase from 2021.
Normalization of Antisemitism
A 2023 survey by the ADL found that 20% of Americans believe antisemitic stereotypes, marking the highest level in decades.
Impact on Younger Generations
Nearly 90% of Jewish students on college campuses report experiencing or witnessing antisemitism.
Intersectionality of Prejudice
A 2023 study found that individuals holding antisemitic beliefs were 2 to 3 times more likely to harbor prejudice against other minority groups, highlighting the interconnectedness of hate.
Lack of Awareness
Only 45% of Americans could name a concentration camp or ghetto from the Holocaust, and 63% of Millennials did not know 6 million Jews were murdered, showing a dire need for education.
The Cost of Injustice Youth Impact
Experiences of hate and discrimination negatively affect mental health, with 40% of youth reporting emotional distress as a result of prejudice.
Expanding Our Reach for Lasting Change
Real social change happens in collaboration with others. And this is a movement that’s bigger than any one person. That’s why we’re on a mission to expand our reach – one school and one community at a time – to challenge intolerance, foster unity, and build a more compassionate tomorrow.
Our programs ensure that Anne’s voice continues to resonate across generations, guiding us toward a world rooted in kindness, understanding, and justice. Our decentralized structure allows us to direct most of our funds toward educational programs and outreach, ensuring that the impact of our work is felt far and wide.
I am incredibly grateful for the Anne Frank Center staff. They are so welcoming, professional, and flexible with teachers and students and really care about the students and their experience with the program.
