Katherine A. Meade

Katherine A. Meade is an arts educator, a nonprofit leader, and freelance dramaturg who specializes in SEL, mental health, and applied theater. For the past 20 years, Katie has focused on creating educational programs that teach history, social justice, equity, mental health and empathy through the performing and visual arts. This work began during her time as a theater professor and high school teacher with Kingsborough Community College, using the works of Paulo Freire (Pedagogy of the Oppressed) and Augusto Boal (Theatre of the Oppressed) as the backbone of her curriculum. She has presented her work to countless students of every age and ability, as well as hundreds of educators throughout the United States.
Highlights include presenting a literary workshop on Anne Frank to over 400 students at the United Nations, co-founding the first interpretive programs department at The National September 11th Memorial & Museum, and presenting programs on integrating arts into social studies curriculum to educators throughout the United States. Katie has curated and consulted on social-justice and arts-based programming for a variety of prominent New York institutions including The New-York Historical Society, the New York Transit Museum, The Children’s Museum of the Arts (NYC), and currently as the Associate Director of Education at The Watermill Center. Katie holds an MBA in Arts Innovation from The Global Leaders Institute, an MFA in Dramaturgy from Brooklyn College, City University of New York, a BA in Theatre Studies from Marymount Manhattan College and is currently obtaining her credentials as a certified Expressive Arts Coach and Educator through The Trauma-Informed Practices and Expressive Arts Therapy Institute.
